The internet has done it again. Out of nowhere, an image went viral overnight. However, this image has no direct joke and no hidden meaning. The entire idea makes no sense, but that level of insane randomness is what made the egg, a photo of a random egg created to break the Instagram record for most likes, a viral sensation.

Currently, the egg has 45,730,185 likes, and the page it’s on, @world_record_egg, has 6.5 million followers. The account has somehow garnered all of this attention in just 12 days, as the original post was featured on Jan. 4.

The previous record for most likes was Kylie Jenner’s announcement of her baby’s birth. That post currently sits at 18,560,720 likes, which is 25 million likes less than the egg.

Whoever is behind the account didn’t just stop at the egg; an official egg gang merch store has been set up through Everpress in which users are allowed to purchase shirts that state “I Liked the Egg.” In addition, the store is also giving away 10% of all proceeds made from the sale of the the shirts to a charity of the day that it sponsors.

The egg currently holds the title for most liked photo on Instagram, and a post to rival it has yet to be seen. Furthermore, the account posted a photo Monday with a message thanking all of its supporters and claims “it doesn’t end here, though, we’re only just getting started.”
